Monday, October 20, 2008 at 17:00 to 19:00 at the Westin, Confederation II room.
Everyone is encouraged to come to view the posters and learn first-hand of
the wide-ranging research interests and talents of the participating students!
Winners will be announced at the main conference banquet on Tuesday night
which will ensure good exposure for their research and personal achievements!
Participating students will be contacted with poster guidelines. For any
questions, do not hesitate to contact gradprogram@csche2008.ca.
The following lists the three main criteria by which posters shall be
judged followed by a sample evaluation sheet:
1. Scientific Content
The poster should provide an adequate amount of background information on
the research subject and the specific objectives of the current research should be clearly stated. The
experimental design and methods used should be appropriate and adequate to test the hypothesis. There
should be a clear summation of research results and discussion of their interpretation. The research
shall also be judged on originality and the significance of the contribution in the particular
field.
2. Poster Appearance and Organization
The poster should be written and designed in such a way that the material
is easy to follow for individuals who are not experts in the particular field of study, but possess a basic
scientific and engineering background. In terms of the overall layout, the poster should be divided
into clear, coherent, and relevant sections which make information easy to find. The poster should also
be visually appealing. It should appear uncluttered. Text should be large, and excessive text
should be avoided.
3. Presentation Skills
A brief overview of the poster highlights should be provided lasting
approximately 3 minutes. Oral communications should be clear and concise while demonstrating confidence
and enthusiasm for the research. Judges will also have the opportunity to pose questions.
