Take a break during one of the conference sessions, and come join us in exploring some of Ottawa’s top tourist attractions!

 

Tours will leave from the Westin Hotel.  Sign-up sheets for the tours will be available at the conference registration table.  Participants will be responsible for the indicated entry and/or tour fees and shall pay on-site.

 

Canadian Agriculture Museum

The Canada Agriculture Museum is testament to our "Green Capital" and features our nation’s unique agricultural heritage. Located across from the Rideau Canal and the Central Experimental Farm, it enjoys a scenic locale, made all the more impressive by the Fall season in October. A 1.5 hour tour on ‘Genetic and Selective Breeding’ will involve a discussion about genes, parameters considered during selective and cross breeding. The tour will involve more of a farm-like outdoorsy experience.

Parliament Hill

A glimpse into the inner workings of Canadian Democracy! Guided tours will be conducted at Parliament Hill and will involve a visit to the Centre Block and exhibits describing the history, roles and functions of Canada’s parliamentarians. A self guided tour of the Peace Tower and Memorial Chamber is also available, featuring an observation deck with a spectacular view.

Royal Canadian Mint

The Royal Canadian Mint is the designated manufacturer for currency in Canada. The process of manufacturing coins can be observed during the guided tour. The tour will also involve a description of the historical timeline of the Canadian coins, engineering and handcrafting techniques, and a viewing of the coin collection with a special feature on silver and gold coins.

National Gallery

Ottawa has a place for everyone, be it nature lovers or art enthusiasts.  The National Gallery of Canada is a visual arts museum of international stature. It is located in Ottawa’s historic ByWard Market area and overlooks the Ottawa River and the Parliament Buildings. Its award-winning architecture, featuring the luminous Great Hall, spacious galleries, and interior gardens and courtyards, is in itself worth the visit.  Inuit art, religion, Canadian sculpture and other areas of interest are a part of the guided tour.
