Symposium on Energy for a Sustainable
Society
Energy has become a political priority around the world. Demand for
energy rose dramatically in recent years, fuelling the world’s economic growth but also increasing
concerns over the impacts of increased production and consumption on the environment, health and energy
security. The solution to this complex issue of sustainability will require concerted efforts by public
policymakers and economic market players as well as the mobilization of global innovators. Arguably, there
has never been a greater need to accelerate energy technology development for greater energy security,
environmental protection and economic growth.
This symposium will bring together the world’s top innovators
from governments, academia, environmental organizations and industry to present their latest findings on the
state-of-the-art technologies for the production and end use of energy, and to discuss the relevant policy
implications. It will be a great forum for researchers to discuss further enhancement to their technologies
with other researchers and stakeholders.
The focus of this year’s symposium will be on innovations that
help assure a continuous benefit to our generation from using our endowment of energy resources, without
unduly impacting the benefits of future generations.
In recognition of the global nature of this goal, this symposium will
include significant participation from the International Energy Agency.
